Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Rd. Palo Alto. The Palo Alto Art Center
is a nationally recognized visual art center offering exhibitions, which emphasize work by local, regional, and California artists, with a particular emphasis on the art of the San Francisco Bay Area. Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, located in the historic Museum building in Stanford University on Lomita Drive at Museum Way. Permanent collection of modern and contemporary art. It also has a cafe and a bookstore. It was closed 1989 due to earchquake damage and reopened in January 1999 after 10 years of renovation and expansion. Call 650-723-4177 .
Museum of American Heritage, 351 Homer Ave between Bryant and Waverly in Palo Alto. Features Amerian invention of electrical and mechanical devices, phonographs, piano, knitting machine, household items, etc. The museum is housed in a 1907 English country-style home once belonged to a local physician named Dr. Thomas Marion Williams. Hiller Aviation Museum, 601 Skyway Road in San Carlos. Exibits of vintage and futuristic aircraft. The 1955 Flying Platform, the 1957 Rotorcycle, etc. It also has aviation toys, books, flight wear, models, and memorabili. Call (650) 654-0200.
Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd. Mountain View. Established in 1996, the Computer History Museum is a public benefit organization dedicated to the preservation and celebration of computing history. It is home to one of the largest collections of computing artifacts in the world, a collection comprising over 4,000 artifacts, 10,000 images, 4,000 linear feet of cataloged documentation and gigabytes of software. The collection is housed in a Visible Storage Exhibit Area at NASA Research Park, Moffett Field, Mountain View, Calif.
