The History of Pizza
PAL Staff

I'm sure you have wondered about the history of pizza when you were fighting over a last slice with your dorm-mates. Have they always been that tasteful worth loosing limbs to your dorm-mates? Have they always been that colorful? Wonder no more!

The first pizza was invented and named by peasants in Naples in 1535. For 300 years, pizza was very simple and plain. In 1889, King Umberto of Italy visited Naples. To impress the King, a baker named Raffaele Esposito added mozzarella cheese and tomatoes to the pizza. It took another 60 years or so before pizza invaded America. Fancy toppings were added for variety over the years.
